As a freelancer my day to day activities are very varied.

While this is interesting and I do love it, it takes a certain amount of discipline to effectively manage as any founder/entrepreneur will know. This even extends to employees in the common workplace.

Basically, if you’re not organised, you constantly operate in what I call a ‘Circle of Chaos’. Too much stuff going on your head which often tends to disrupt any practical method or means of getting through the day.

To cope better I recommend trying this:

1. Even though you might have monthly and/or weekly targets, adopt a day to day targeted approach.
2. Remove the chaos from your head. Write or type out everything you want to accomplish for just the day ahead. This automatically creates clarity.
3. Give priority. Arrange all tasks in order of importance. Only you will know how to do this.
4. Be honest with yourself. Only commit to and take on what YOU know you WILL be able to accomplish for the day.
5 Reward yourself. As you work through the day tick off each completed task. The feeling of seeing these being ticked off one by one is very gratifying.

And if you don’t manage to complete all your tasks, don’t worry. By working in the above manner, you kickstart a very clear method in knowing how to pace yourself every day.

Common sense? Of course, but it’s easy to forget when bogged down with a challenging workload and too much to get through.
